  • I can't say I disagree. I'll check to see the consensus. Happy mother's day!

  • There is a starved, neglected animal chained to my neighbors fence at 105 Charles St in Carencro. She is a young pit bull by the name of Diamond. The owner, a young man, in his early 20's, chained her to the fence several months ago with a regular 3' dog lead. Since that time I have bought this dog a new 10 foot chain, given them a wooden dog house, purchased a heat lamp and provide the electricity for it, and I feed the dog every other day. She is very, very thin. She is never walked, they do not play or spend any time with her. I did turn them in to Lafayette Animal Control, who performed a visit, warned them about the dog's weight, and told them she had to have a rabies shot. The owner's mother came to our house day before yesterday, asking if we could "take care" of the shot, or tell her how to do it.....she stated that she could not afford it.

Last night, while walking my dog, about 8PM, the owner's mother was outside hitting the dog and calling her "stupid" for about 15 minutes. The dog was obviously glad to see her and was jumping on her.

I am obviously very worried about this animal. Can you give me advice on what can be done, if anything to save Diamond? I would greatly appreciate any insight.

    Thank you,

  • Is there a place in Vermilion Parish to bring homeless animals like the Humane Society instead of animal control picking up an animal and killing it days later? Why hasn't the Humane Society stepped up to open a shelter here in Vermilion? I pay dues yearly to them but they do nothing for this area that I know of anyway.
